Our church was planted in September 2002 as Livingwater Fellowship (LWF), centered around this theme verse: “Come to me, all you that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28, NRSV). From its inception, Livingwater has been a place of refuge for those who are broken and who yearn for the healing presence of God.

During the first few years, LWF was primarily composed of college students who were mentored by a handful of lay leaders. Known for its charismatic preaching, powerful contemporary praise music, and intimate community, LWF eventually became a full-fledged church. Livingwater Church (LWC) has multiple college groups on the University of California, Berkeley (UCB) campus, a vibrant young adult community, and a growing contingency of young families.

Throughout the years, LWC has partnered with various Christian parachurch organizations within UCB and the greater Bay Area, emphasizing a welcoming cooperation with serving our community and pointing them to Jesus. In addition, LWC has sought to emphasize evangelism and missions locally and internationally, sending short-term missionaries to various locations and supporting missionaries worldwide.

Without a doubt, the Spirit of God has been with Livingwater, leading us from one glorious moment to the next. Part of our new identity is that we'll be transitioning to a new name (Emerge Berkeley) in the coming weeks, for a targeted impact in our city.
